To me, Crichton's formula of some scientific background and a exciting story adds up to a great book. In State of Fear, he makes a case that activists, politicians, and others are always looking for a cause they can exploit. Politicians use it to further their ambitions, like our own Gov. Inslee, trying to parlay his carbon footprint reduction theories into a presidential bid. Don't kid yourself, many people on both sides of the "global warming" issue profit from the State of Fear they instill in us. My only regret about Crichton's books is that we lost him too soon, so there are only so many left to read.
