"Imagine...John Lennon's childhood. Liverpool, 1955: a smart and troubled fifteen-year-old is hungry for experience. In a family full of secrets, two incredible women clash over John (Aaron Johnson): Mimi (Kristin Scott Thomas), the buttoned-up aunt who raised him, and Julia (Anne-Marie Duff), the prodigal mother. Yearning for a normal family, John escapes into the new and exciting world of rock 'n' roll where his fledgling genius finds a kindred spirit in the teenage Paul McCartney (Thomas Brodie Sangster). At the time this movie was released in 2009, it completely flew under my radar. It's a pretty good portrayal of John Lennon in his early days, although many of the story details had to have been fictionalized. It did a good job of showing Lennon's volatility and penchant for violence, where he physically attacked two of his band mates, including Paul. No excuse for a lack of subtitles on this disc though. The accents and slang were incomprehensible at times.

Julia trying to seduce John was just creepy. The problem with historical films is they tell a different history than the one I lived through. Probably would have been a good movie for young teens if they had less cussing and had left out the sex scene in the park. As is, not really something I'd show the under 17 crowd.

What a great insight into that "NOWHERE" Lennon Boy. Surrounded by weird people and everything from Tchaikovsky to Elvis ... no wonder John Lennon had to write songs about his turbulent life!

I like the Beatles. I like biopics. I love movies that incorporate music. So I had to give this movie a go, and I am soooo glad I did!

The acting was phenomenal, really. Aaron Johnson played Lennon, I wasn't expecting him to be so GOOD! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for his movies from now on. Everyone else was particularly good as well. I definitely enjoyed it, and have already recommended it to friends. Can easily see myself watching again.
