The Wheel of Time ® is a PBS Great American Read Selection! Now in development for TV!

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

In Towers of Midnight , the Last Battle has started. The seals on the Dark One's prison are crumbling. The Pattern itself is unraveling, and the armies of the Shadow have begun to boil out of the Blight.

The sun has begun to set upon the Third Age.

Perrin Aybara is now hunted by specters from his past: Whitecloaks, a slayer of wolves, and the responsibilities of leadership. All the while, an unseen foe is slowly pulling a noose tight around his neck. To prevail, he must seek answers in Tel'aran'rhiod and find a way--at long last--to master the wolf within him or lose himself to it forever.

Meanwhile, Matrim Cauthon prepares for the most difficult challenge of his life. The creatures beyond the stone gateways--the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn--have confused him, taunted him, and left him hanged, his memory stuffed with bits and pieces of other men's lives. He had hoped that his last confrontation with them would be the end of it, but the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills. The time is coming when he will again have to dance with the Snakes and the Foxes, playing a game that cannot be won. The Tower of Ghenjei awaits, and its secrets will reveal the fate of a friend long lost.

Dovie'andi se tovya sagain. It's time to toss the dice.

TV series update: "Sony will produce along with Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures. Rafe Judkins is attached to write and executive produce. Judkins previously worked on shows such as ABC's "Agents of SHIELD," the Netflix series "Hemlock Grove," and the NBC series "Chuck." Red Eagle partners Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon will executive produce along with Radar's Ted Field and Mike Weber. Darren Lemke will also executive produce, with Jordan's widow Harriet McDougal serving as consulting producer." -- Variety

ELAYNE: "I'd make you Captain-General if you asked, but I don't think you want it.
GAWYN: "What makes you say that?"
ELAYNE: "Well, you've spent the majority of your time here moping around these gardens."
GAWYN: "I have not been moping. I've been pondering."

If this book is anything, it’s a really good redemption arc. Finally content with his fate, Rand decides to face it head on by proclaiming to The Mother that he will break the seals containing Shaitan causing the last battle. Rand also goes and sets into place a plan to keep nations from falling into chaos after he’s dead. In a change of pace, it is very heartwarming to watch Rand finally begin to enjoy life, even if his end is near. His surrounding friends prep for the final battle developing new weapons and enlisting new soldiers. Humanity comes together to face off in one last battle. Because the beginning was slow and a little weird, I didn't think I'd like Towers of Midnight. But after finishing it, I have to say that I enjoyed it and I think that this book continues the story in a exciting way and gets all the main characters prepared for The Last Battle. A lot of loose ends are tied up and a lot of characters who haven't interacted since Lord of Chaos or previous books before that actually talk to each other again (like Rand and Egwene and Mat and Perrin).
While The Gathering Storm was mostly about Rand and Egwene, this book is all about the other characters like Perrin, Faile, Mat, Elayne, Lan, and Aviendha. Brandon Sanderson manages to juggle a bunch of plot lines and characters successfully and I actually found myself eager to find out what would happen next. Things that I liked were the fact that Rand gets his act together and has some really sweet and epic moments, that characters like Galad and Perrin got to work together (and pull a Law and Order like trial), how Mat and Perrin got some spotlight after being ignored in some of the previous books, and that a certain character gets to come back. I also liked that Sanderson wrote in such a way that made some of the scenes really easy to visualize.
One thing that I found really confusing was Perrin's storyline. Most of his story takes place during events in The Gathering Storm, but what was most confusing was having a character be in Perrin's camp in one chapter but then have that character be in a completely different location in the next (Tam al'Thor is a good example of this). While Mat was pretty funny, some of the things he did bothered me. I also thought that there was just some terrible couple parings, but oh well. I also wish the whole Tower of Ghenjei scene was a bit longer as it was really interesting and kind of epic and creepy at the same time. I wish Rand was in this book more but again, oh well... (I should mention that my favorite chapters were 3, 13, 15, 32, 55 and the epilogue).
In all, this book was pretty cool and I think it was a fantastic setup for A Memory of Light. I'm really excited to have finally reached the last Wheel of Time book and hope that the final volume is just as good or even better than this book.

After a couple misses in this series this book finally returns to a clear story line and begins to wrap up this epic series. This book is a definate reason to return to this series and give it another try.

Such a good book! Brandon Sanderson is finishing this series off brilliantly. I am loving his books almost more than the original written by Robert Jordan (but perhaps that's because the plot is finally ending!). The next book comes out January 8, 2013, I believe. It's going to be a loooong wait.

And we finally get the second-to-last installment of WoT! Old problems are solved and new problems are brought up as the world prepares for the Last Battle. I enjoyed this book, and am really looking forward to the last book.

Sanderson as revived the series, both in taking over the series after Jordan died in 2007, and with his amazing writing style.
