Robert Timberg weaves together the lives of Annapolis graduates John McCain, James Webb, Oliver North, Robert McFarlane, and John Poindexter to reveal how the Vietnam War continues to haunt America. Casting all five men as metaphors for a legion of well-meaning if ill-starred warriors, Timberg probes the fault line between those who fought the war and those who used money, wit, and connections to avoid battle. A riveting tale that illuminates the flip side of the fabled Vietnam generation: those who went.

Dec 17 2015.....have been listening to parts of this, as my husband listens to it. It is now on my list of books for the new year. Unfortunately, our library system does not have a copy of the book itself. :( This is the only copy of Timberg's works in our system. I did some research and have ordered a copy of his newest book 'Blue Eyed Boy' and after I read that, I will donate it to the library. Of particular interest at this time, was the part in this book where he is describing a bit about the politics of Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Jordan. It certainly compelled me to read (or I guess listen to, as that is my only option right now!) the full story. I see the audio didn't impress the only other commentator here!.......May 22 2016, just finishing up "Blue Eyed Boy" which is an inspiring story, and very honest as well. It does not dwell on his injuries or recovery very much, but deals with how he came back from such devastation to lead a fairly normal, if not a bit remarkable (in my eyes anyway) life. I believe I will think of Bob Timberg whenever I find myself overwhelmed!

I read the book years ago & found it revealing. Trying the audio was a huge disappointment & did not complete.
