This re-creation of the land of Oz, tells the story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, who wasn't so wicked after all. Past the yellow brick road and into a phantasmagoric world rich with imagination and allegory, Wicked just might change the reputation of one of the most sinister characters in literature.

Comment
Add a CommentThe original Wizard of Oz was scary and dreadful. I'm not sure what it is, but the whole production communicates melancholy. "Wicked" is very imaginative and shows that you shouldn't pay attention to the cowd. They can misinterpret you and your actions. No matter what, you can still do it!
In the original The Wizard Of Oz, Oz is the dream of a child who got caught in a tornado as a result of trying to run away from her problems. The child's view is sweet and hopeful. In Wicked, Oz appears to be the dream of the carnival man as he attempts suicide by drowning. It makes for a much sadder view. While the book is imaginative and engaging, I come away with the question "Why would I want to make myself sadder?"
