It's 1895, and after the suicide of her mother, 16-year-old Gemma Doyle is shipped off from the life she knows in India to Spence, a proper boarding school in England. Lonely, guilt-ridden, and prone to visions of the future that have an uncomfortable habit of coming true, Gemma's reception there is a chilly one. To make things worse, she's been followed by a mysterious young Indian man, a man sent to watch her. But why? What is her destiny? And what will her entanglement with Spence's most powerful girls-and their foray into the spiritual world-lead to?

This audiobook isn't the entire book. It's a summarized version. I was wondering why there were only four discs! The little bits in the book, like Madamoiselle LeFarg's new beau and her old one in the realms and everything that sort of foreshadowed towards the next two books is gone, it's been taken out to make it shorter.
I also thought that the norrorators voice way much too high for Gemma, but I got used to her. But for props, the narrorator, was able to do all of the accents and acuired tones for the different characters.
I rate it high because it's a good story regardless, but it's missing the little bits, and I missed them.
