Although there are several characters in this psychodrama of grief and love, the main story is the protagonist’s inner dialogue as she submerges into grief. I felt there was much repetition as she grappled with emerging secrets and lies, but Fitch handled the plot dynamics between protagonist and her almost-mother-in-law antagonist energetically. The beautifully rich imagery and prose that marked Fitch’s first novel, White Oleander, is here in spades …too much so.
The writing was lush and poetic, but the story and characters were just so awful.
this book took me along time to finish. I put it down several times but once i got past the first 200 pages it was very enjoyable. Had a great ending with screaming ideas of incestry.
A great book, if you loved Janet Fitch's White Oleander, you will get sucked up in this book! I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended read!
