I've read most of Tony Hillerman's books and enjoy them.
This story, however, is not one of his better ones. Partly due to the location shift to Washington DC I believe.

Talking God ---- by Tony Hillerman c - 1989 ---- Mystery ---- This story as with most of Mr. Hillermans' writings is a Good read. The humor and action portrayed In the tales are the reason I've Read so many of his stories (Fic) including Non - Fiction. ---- Enjoy! ---- RichardPaul
