A teen is forced to make a fresh start after witnessing a violent crime--but love and danger find her anyway in this novel from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.

Stella Gordon's life is a lie.

She does not belong in Thunder Basin, Nebraska. As the star witness in a murder trial against a drug dealer, Stella is now in the Witness Protection Program. The small town locals can never know who she really is. Not even Chet Falconer, the one boy who makes her want to reveal her true self. She knows that telling the truth will only bring violence to this safe haven.

Despite how hard Stella tries to stay under the radar, danger is fast-approaching. Criminals have a way of getting rid of witnesses, and Stella may have made the one mistake that could lead the cold-blooded men hunting for her right to her doorstep.

Seventeen-year-old Stella Gordon is put into witness protection program where she has to hide in Nebraska, Thunder Basin from a drug dealer. I think Stella is a very bratty teenager in the beginning of the book. She only cares for herself and sees mostly the bad in everything. She's been told by the government to never reveal her past to anyone for she can be in danger. That all changes when she meets Chet, your typical boy next door. She realizes that it's hard for her to keep her secret safe with him around, and soon learns that Chet has secrets of his own. I really like this book because it just tells you that you can't run away from the past. Rating 5/5 stars

This book wins the prize for the brattiest, rudest, most annoying character in all of the YA novel world. She's constantly judging others, making stupid decisions, and basically making it impossible to feel for her and care about what happens to her. The romance was stupid, too. I did not enjoy this book.

I've read Becca Fitzpatrick's other novels and I've enjoyed them so when I saw she made another one, I didn't hesitate to pick it up. I thought I would regret it once I started reading it. Stella's attitude annoyed me in the beginning. But I once I kept going I found it enjoyable. It's a really interesting quick read.

A fast-moving young adult novel.
Stella has been placed in Witness Protection, after witnessing a murder.
She has a new identity and life in a small town in Nebraska. She can't wait until she turns eighteen, so she can start making her own decisions.
Stella did not reckon on meeting local boy Chet, who has secrets of his own.

This book was a page turner and I was reluctant to put it down. I was not a big fan of her Hush Hush series but this book is fantastic. Would definitely recommend. Plus I liked the fact that it did not leave room for a sequel. So many books now leave it open ended for a sequel (especially young adult which sometimes I think is a bit of a cash grab) but every once in awhile it is nice just to have a story with a satisfying ending. Would definitely recommend this one to my students (grade 9 and up).

"Fear and desperation weren't reasons to love someone. Love shouldn't need a reason, I decided. It was a deep bond, a commitment. It should steal your breath away. It should never make you compromise yourself."
