I did not really know Martin Short, his comedy or his movies. I read it on a recommendation that it was funny. It does have a few very funny anecdotes, but, by and large it is just an autobiography. I will say this, he certainly knows the whose who of Hollywood. He did not achieve great Hollywood stardom and he admits it, nonetheless he was around at a time when he grew with and got to know everyone who did achieve it.
If you are a fan, or have an interest in him, read it. If not, well, I would skip it.

This is a honest and captivating book about the life and career of Martin Short. Short himself has a voice that could melt butter. He instantly transports you into his world. At the end of the book, you feel like the two of you are old friends. It's well written, funny, insightful, heartbreaking and an all around great book. Even if you are not a fan of Martin Short, or even if you've never heard of him, you should check out this audiobook.

If you're a fan of Martin Short, you will love him even more after reading his funny memoir. In his modest, self-effacing way he writes about his childhood growing up in Canada where he practiced his comedy "routines" alone in his bedroom in front of an imaginary audience. He tells us about his journey to "comedy legend" meeting along the way Tom Hanks and Steve Martin who have become his good friends. Short's anecdotes are funny and reveal his "humble" nature. NC

I agree with a previous reviewer - I think this book plays much better as an audiobook, read by the author. I can see how readers may find the book a lot of name-dropping but in the context of how Mr. Short reads it, it doesn't come across that way in the audiobook.
There is a lot of laugh-out-loud humour and anyone who has any interest in the wonderful world of SCTV, you will enjoy the many references made. The book is well-paced and the author frequently goes into character mode - one of the wonderful features of the audiobook - you get to hear Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick!
It is anything but humble, but from what I gathered about Mr. Short's style of humour, I believe the title is intended to be funny.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoyed SCTV and the early years of SNL (remember when it was good?)

I highly recommend listening to the audiobook version to hear the many characters of Martin Short. He is incredibly articulate, intelligent, thoughtful, and of course, funny. This has given me a new appreciation for this humble comedian!

Martin Short's autobiography with him as narrator with a few of his characters, including my personal favorite, Jiminy Glick. This is a rewarding story of his life with all that impacts us during our short time on earth. A great listen. 9 of 10 stars
