I enjoy this author and look forward to new publications. She researches history and intertwines a good story, one of those hard to put down books.
The overblown love story couldn't get me past the first 50 pages. Also plenty of implausible plot points. Avoid.
In Jenoff's fourth novel, she explores World War II through the eyes of 18-year-old Polish twins, Helena and Ruth. They live in a rural village outside Warsaw trying to take care of 3 much younger siblings after their father's death and their mother entrance into a hospital. The discovery of a downed American pilot trying to contact the Polish resistance leads to fateful and fatal decisions for the family. The reader can literally feel the lack of heat and food as the Germans draw ever closer...
