"In Protect and Defend, the action begins in the heart of Iran, where billions of dollars are being spent on the development of a nuclear program. No longer willing to wait for the international community to stop its neighboring enemy, Israel launches one of the most creative and daring espionage operations ever conceived. The attack leaves a radioactive tomb and environmental disaster in the middle of Iran's second largest city. An outraged Iranian government publicly blames both Israel and the United States for the attack and demands retribution. Privately, Iran's bombastic president wants much more. He wants America and Israel to pay for their aggression with blood. Enter Mitch Rapp, America's top counterterrorism operative. Used to employing deception, Rapp sees an opportunity where others see only Iranian reprisals that could leave thousands of Americans dead. Rapp convinces President Josh Alexander to sign off on a risky operation that will further embarrass the Iranian government and push their country to the brink of revolution. As part of the plan, CIA director Irene Kennedy is dispatched to the region for a clandestine meeting with Azad Ashani, her Iranian counterpart. But Rapp isn't the only one hatching plans. Iran's President Amatullah has recruited Hezbollah master terrorist Imad Mukhtar to do his dirty work. For decades Mukhtar has acted as a surrogate for Iran, blazing a trail of death and destruction across the Middle East and beyond. When Kennedy's meeting with Ashani goes disastrously wrong, Rapp and Mukhtar are set on a collision course that threatens to engulf the entire region in war. With the clock ticking, Rapp is given twenty-four hours, no questions asked, to do whatever it takes to stop Mukhtar, and avert an unthinkable catastrophe."--Container.

Makes one wonder about the political manipulation in the world, and also the reality of "playing nice" versus getting the job done.

Protect and Defend begins by wrapping up (no pun intended) some loose ends from Act of Treason. Action scenes include an assassination in Central America, the destruction of an Iranian nuclear plant, naval action in the Persian Gulf, the kidnapping of the Director of the CIA, and two major shoot-outs. There’s enough murder and mayhem to satisfy almost all. It’s a fun read!

This author is great. You should read the books in order starting with Term Limits. Author isn't racist, he just tells it like it is.

Vince Flynn has created a gold mine of a character, Mitch Rapp.

Flynn enlightens his readers with facts about the Middle East, and shows that he did his homework before he wrote this book. I highly reccommend it to all who want a peek into what bravery and courage it takes to work for the CIA.

As always Vince Flynn's books are thrillers from start to finish.

Not a good book at all and I didn't finish it. The writer is just a racist American that belives in torture of terorists!

Reading Vince Flynn books is a guilty pleasure. I hate that the books are so right-wing and enthnocentric, but there is no denying that they are fun to read and that this guy really knows how to write. OK, it's all according to the same formula, but it's impossible not to get caught up in the action. It's another entertaining page-turner.

Bummer. He 'phoned in' the last two books too. That's to bad. I heard he optioned the books in some type of film deal also, so like many writers he's now set for life and probably doesn't care anymore and is just fulfilling a book contract now.
I agree his politics are really annoying also. The first few books were pretty apolitical but it increasingly got worse as he ran out of original ideas.
