Zero chemistry between these two talented actors meant the rest of the story wobbled. Beautiful scenery and some scary moments as they (and the dog) must decide whether to wait for rescue, or set out on foot.

Book was much better. Not sure why Hollywood has to change things - often for the worst!

This action/thriller film stars Kate Winslet as Alex and Idris Elba as Dr. Bass, as they must work together to survive after crashing in a plane on the side of an icy cold mountain. The pair must travel miles upon miles while forcing each other to keep going and to persevere against the odds. The movie did a fairly good job at keeping things entertaining for the audience even though it was largely centered around only two main characters out in the wilderness. With that said, it did become slightly slow-paced and boring at times. I would rate this movie 3.5/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who enjoys thriller films and the human urge to survive. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Great character study. The dog was terrific! and should have had more mention in the "making of". Exciting and original.

Bad acting, contrived plotline. The only thing worth looking at in this film are the mountains and snow.

Directed by Hany Abu-Assad in 2017 based on the novel of the same name by Charles Martin, this American romantic survival drama depicts the struggle and love to survive the plane crash.
It is a simple and slow-paced story with no surprises, no twists, no fascinating events and some predictable turns.

The scenery was wonderful! The story seemed incredibly familiar--like every plane crash or ship wreck movie. The acting was good, but not fabulous. I think the director didn't really know what to do with these two very talented actors. Did I mention the spectacular scenery?

Loved every minute of this beautiful, entertaining, exciting, and well-acted movie - especially the ending which was totally unpredictable to me. In fact, the whole movie was unpredictable to me and that really made the film fun to watch. I didn't read about the plot beforehand. After they made the brave decision to leave the plane, I sat back and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure. After the movie was over the title of the movie gained more meaning.

I liked this movie and thought the acting was good. I found some of this to be unbelievable. Wood was always available for a fire. What did the dog eat while they were lost for that length of time? They has so little food between them but the dog had lots of energy. I forgot she shot a cougar with a flare gun and they ate the cougar. When she fell through the ice, it was amazing that he just reached into the water and pulled her out. Oh well, it is just a story with a predictable ending. Beautiful mountain scenery!

Surprised that this quote from the book was left out the movie:
“... the mountain between us is one I cannot climb .”
===
We can go three weeks without food, three days without water, and three hours without shelter.
===
I owe you an apology. I did find that beacon. I saw it. It was smashed to pieces.
-No, you didn't know that when you came looking for me, did you?
===
If we stay here we're safe. If we leave, search and rescue, they're less likely to find us.
-Look, I don't want to die up here because you're too scared to take a risk. We have to do something.
===
Ben... do you actually know what it means to be reckless? It means to abandon safety.
- I know exactly what it means, Alex. And sometimes... But right now... Right now, we don't have a choice, okay? Nobody knows where we are. You know, all we have is me and you.
===
And the heart is just a muscle. Right?
-What idiot said that?
